Principal’s Message August 2014
From the Brentano Local School Council:
Dear Parents and Supporters of Brentano,
As you likely know, the Local School Council is in the process of selecting a new principal for Brentano. This is a responsibility that the LSC takes very seriously and we would like the parents, teachers, students and community to be a part of this important decision.
Candidate interviews will begin shortly, and in order to assist the LSC in their decision we would appreciate you taking a few minutes of your time to give us some feedback on what you feel are important qualities that Brentano needs in its new leader. Please take the opportunity to complete the survey, which can be found here.
Other highlights of this month’s LSC meeting include:
With Ms. Salgado’s retirement as of October 31st, Brentano has 2 interim principals - Drs. Gonzalez and Cavey - who are leading the school as the LSC selects a new contract principal. Both are retired CPS principals and are doing a wonderful job in the position. The principals report that the school is running very smoothly, which is a tribute to our highly capable teachers and staff.
A special meeting of the Local School Council will be held on November 21st at 4pm to review resumes from applicants for the open principal position. While the meeting will begin as an open meeting, resumes will be reviewed in closed session.
Progress is being made to hire an additional special education teacher for Brentano, with candidate interviews underway.
Over the next month, the LSC will be gathering parent emails through the classroom teachers in an effort to improve communication between the LSC and current parents. Please respond if your child comes home with asking for your email address so that we have a mechanism to keep you better informed.
Many thanks to Mr. Harlan for writing and winning the After School All-Stars grant program, which will fund after hours sports, tutoring and activities for our kids!
The Local School Council meets every second Friday of the Month at 6pm. We hope to see you there!
