Principal’s Message March 2014
Dear Parents and/or Guardians
Believe it or not, Spring is just around the corner! Here at Brentano we have been working diligently to provide a wide range of opportunities for our students. Our teachers and staff have been busy but enjoying every minute, they are an amazing bunch! So much that Mayor Emmanuel paid us a visit and was very impressed with our school.
I want to take this opportunity to share the many events that we have embarked on to provide a well-rounded enriching education. During the past few months our students have worked on research projects ranging from the Civil War, Civil Rights, Oceans and Habitats, Computer Programming, Science Projects, Spelling Bee and dramatizations, and the list goes on and on! Not only were they engaged in project learning, but they also engaged in performances through our Drama Department. The drama program has been received enthusiastically by students and parents alike. Our kids love to perform and they are very talented. You will witness this in the May performance of “The Wizard of OZ” - May 30th & 31st.
Our goal at Brentano is to provide ample opportunities that promote and encourage students to explore and foster their hidden talents and hobbies. By having a wide range of extracurricular and academic choices we are able to make learning exciting and productive for all our students.
This year our students participated in Drama Club, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Fitness, Computer Club, Book Club, Art Club, Newspaper Club, High School Preparation Club and Girls Mentoring Club. All these programs provide additional resources and avenues for our students that support and encourage healthy relationships.
During the next months, our students will participate in the State’s ISAT, and District’s NWEA to gauge student academic levels and growth. These tests are a District and State requirements to fulfill the Federal mandate of the Annual Yearly Progress (AYP), and to determine level of school performance.
Parents are welcomed at Brentano and encouraged to volunteer and participate in varied activities and workshops. We invite you to be part of our community. Please check our monthly calendar for upcoming events.
